1. Gather your tools and materials. You will need a new thermostat, a gasket, a thermostat housing gasket, a drain pan, a funnel, and some coolant.
2. Drain the coolant. Place a drain pan under the radiator and open the drain plug. Allow the coolant to drain completely.
3. Remove the thermostat housing. The thermostat housing is located on the front of the engine, near the top. It is held in place by two bolts. Remove the bolts and take off the thermostat housing.
4. Remove the old thermostat. The old thermostat is located inside the thermostat housing. It is held in place by a single bolt. Remove the bolt and take out the old thermostat.
5. Clean the thermostat housing. Clean the thermostat housing with a clean rag to remove any old gasket material.
6. Install the new thermostat. Place the new thermostat into the thermostat housing, and insert the bolt. Tighten the bolt snugly.
7. Install the new thermostat housing gasket. Place the new thermostat housing gasket onto the thermostat housing, and insert the two bolts. Tighten the bolts snugly.
8. Refill the coolant. Add coolant to the radiator until it is full. Run the engine with the heater on full and the radiator cap off until the thermostat opens and the coolant starts to flow through the radiator. Replace the radiator cap.
9. Test the thermostat. Start the engine and let it idle. The thermostat should open and close, allowing the coolant to circulate through the engine. The temperature gauge should read normal.
Here are some additional tips:
* Be careful not to lose any of the bolts when you are removing the thermostat housing.
* Clean the thermostat housing carefully to remove any old gasket material.
* Make sure that the new thermostat is installed correctly.
* If you have any questions, consult with a qualified mechanic.
