- The sensor is responsible for monitoring the temperature of the exhaust gases and sending this information to the engine control unit (ECU).
- If the sensor is faulty, the ECU will not be able to properly control the engine's fuel injection and timing, which can lead to a number of problems, including:
- Reduced engine power
- Increased fuel consumption
- Increased emissions
- Engine overheating
To fix this issue, the exhaust gas temperature sensor should be inspected and replaced if necessary.
- The sensor is located in the exhaust system, just before the catalytic converter.
- It can be accessed by removing the oxygen sensor from its housing.
- Once the oxygen sensor has been removed, the exhaust gas temperature sensor can be unscrewed and removed.
