How do you change a front blower motor on 2001 Mercury Villager?

Tools you will need:

* Phillips head screwdriver

* Flat head screwdriver

* Socket wrench set

* 10mm socket

* 12mm socket

* 14mm socket

* Extension

* Flashlight

* Zip ties

Instructions

1. Open the hood of your car.

2. Locate the blower motor. It is usually located on the passenger side of the engine compartment, near the firewall. On the Villager, it's above the cabin air filter housing.

3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the blower motor. It is usually a black connector with a red release button. If the connector is difficult to find, consult a repair manual.

4. Remove the bolts holding the blower motor in place. There should be four bolts that hold it to the side wall of the engine compartment. Some models may have a nut and bolt holding it in, use a 10mm socket to loosen the nut and then use a 14mm socket to loosen the bolt. You may need to use an extension to reach the lower bolt.

5. Remove the blower motor from the engine compartment. Be careful not to drop the blower motor.

6. Inspect the blower motor for damage. If the motor is damaged you may need to replace it.

7. On most models, you should unbolt the squirrel cage from the fan motor shaft, so you can leave the motor assembly mounted in place and only replace the fan.

8. Install the new blower motor or motor and fan in reverse order.

9. Close the hood of your car.

Here are some additional tips:

* If you have dropped a bolt down the defrost vent, you may be able to retrieve it by using a shop vac with a hose that has an attachment that will fit the vent.

* If you are unable to remove the bolts that hold the blower motor in place, you may need to use a penetrating oil to loosen them.

* If you are replacing the blower motor, be sure to get the correct one for your car. There are different types of blower motors, so it is important to get the one that is specifically designed for your vehicle.
