To replace the cowl cover of the 1996 Ford Explorer, you must remove the windshield wipers. You can do this by doing the following:

1. Insert a flathead screwdriver beneath the wiper blade near the base where the blade attaches to the wiper arm.

2. Gently pry up on the screwdriver to release the wiper blade.

3. The wiper arm will pop off of the wiper motor shaft. Once both wipers have been removed, you can remove the cowl cover by doing the following:

1. Open the hood of the vehicle and prop it open.

2. Locate the plastic push-pin fasteners along the front edge of the cowl cover.

4. Carefully lift the cowl cover off of the windshield.

5. Place the new wiper motor in the vehicle and secure it with the mounting bolts.

6. Reattach the wiper arms to the wiper motor shaft.

7. Snap the wiper blades back into place.

8. Close the hood of the vehicle.
