- A C-clamp
- A flathead screwdriver
- A brake fluid reservoir
Once you have gathered your tools, follow these steps:
1. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel that corresponds to the caliper you want to retract. Do not remove the lug nuts completely.
2. Jack up the car and remove the wheel.
3. Locate the brake caliper. It is the metal housing that contains the brake pads.
4. Use the flathead screwdriver to pry open the dust boot on the caliper.
5. Once the dust boot is open, you will see the brake piston.
6. Use the C-clamp to compress the brake piston. Make sure to apply pressure evenly to avoid damaging the piston.
7. Continue to compress the piston until it is fully retracted.
8. Once the piston is retracted, replace the dust boot.
9. Reinstall the wheel and lug nuts.
10. Lower the car and test the brakes.
Note: Brake fluid may leak out of the caliper when you compress the piston. Make sure to have a brake fluid reservoir handy to catch any fluid that leaks out.
