What is the procedure to remove front half shafts on a 1997 dodge fwd replace small u-joints?

Tools and Materials:

- Safety glasses

- Jack and jack stands

- Chock for the rear wheels

- Floor jack

- 3/8-inch drive ratchet

- 1/2-inch drive ratchet

- 13mm socket

- 15mm socket

- 18mm socket

- 21mm socket

- Pry bar

- Hammer

Procedure:

1. Park your vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.

2. Chock the rear wheels.

3. Jack up the front of the vehicle and support it on jack stands.

4. Remove the front wheels.

5. Remove the cotter pin from the castle nut on the front hub.

6. Use a pry bar to loosen the nut but don't remove it completely.

7. Use a hammer to knock the tie rod end loose from the spindle.

8. Remove the castle nut and washer.

9. Pull the front hub and rotor off of the spindle.

10. Remove the axle nut from the end of the axle shaft.

11. Pull the axle shaft out of the transmission.

12. Use a snap ring pliers to remove the snap ring from the axle shaft.

13. Remove the small U-joint from the axle shaft.

14. Install the new small U-joint onto the axle shaft.

15. Install the snap ring onto the axle shaft.

16. Insert the axle shaft into the transmission.

17. Install the axle nut onto the end of the axle shaft and tighten it to the specified torque.

18. Install the front hub and rotor onto the spindle.

19. Install the castle nut and washer and tighten it to the specified torque.

20. Replace the cotter pin in the castle nut.

21. Replace the tie rod end onto the spindle.

22. Use a pry bar to tighten the tie rod end nut.

23. Lower the vehicle off of the jack stands.

24. Install the front wheels.
