2. Safety First:
- Wear safety glasses and gloves to protect yourself.
- If the vehicle has not been run recently, connect a recovery tank to capture the refrigerant.
3. Locate Compressor:
- The compressor is usually mounted on the front side of the engine, below the radiator.
4. Refrigerant Recovery:
- Attach the AC manifold gauge set to the vehicle's low-pressure service port.
- Open the valve on the recovery tank to capture the refrigerant.
- Turn on the engine and allow it to run until the pressure drops.
- Close the recovery tank valve and turn off the engine.
5. Compressors Removal:
- Remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner pulley bolt and sliding the belt off.
- Remove the bolts holding the compressor clutch and the two compressor mount bolts.
- Carefully remove the compressor while making sure not to spill any excess oil.
6. Install New Compressor:
- Position the new compressor in its place.
- Hand-tighten the compressor mount bolts and the clutch bolt.
- Securely tighten the bolts with a ratchet.
- Slide the serpentine belt back on and tension it accordingly.
7. Vacuum and Leak Test:
- Attach the vacuum pump to the low-pressure service port.
- Start the pump and allow it to run for approximately 15-20 minutes. This helps remove moisture and any impurities from the system.
- Once vacuuming is complete, turn off the pump and allow the system to sit for a few minutes. Check for any leaks using a soapy water solution around joints and connections.
8. Refrigerant Recharge:
- Verify the amount of refrigerant required for the vehicle (usually indicated on a label under the hood).
- Attach the AC manifold gauge set to both the high-pressure and low-pressure ports on the vehicle.
- Charge the system with the specified amount of refrigerant.
9. Functionality Check:
- Turn on the vehicle and set the air conditioning to the "Max" or "High" setting.
- Listen for any unusual noises, and make sure the air conditioner is blowing cold air.
10. System Monitoring:
- Monitor the AC system for proper cooling and pressure levels over the next few days to ensure it's functioning correctly.
