1. Tools needed
- Flat head screwdriver
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Socket set
- 5/16-inch wrench
2. Preparing the door.
- Open the door and remove all the interior screws and bolts that hold the door panel in place. It is important to note the arrangement of the screws when removing them, to aid in reinstallation.
3. Pry the door panel
- After unscrewing the door panel, insert a flat-head screwdriver between the plastic door panel and the metal door frame.
- Gently pry the door panel away from the door frame, working your way around the edges of the panel.
- Be careful not to damage the door panel or the door frame while prying it loose.
4. Locate the latch mechanism.
- Once the door panel is removed, you will be able to see the door latch mechanism. It is located on the inner side of the door, attached to the door frame.
5. Remove the old latch mechanism.
- Use a 5/16-inch wrench to loosen the bolts holding the latch mechanism in place.
- Once loosened, remove the bolts and the latch mechanism.
6. Install the new latch mechanism.
- Align the new latch mechanism with the holes on the door frame.
- Insert the bolts and tighten them with the 5/16-inch wrench.
Make sure the new latch mechanism is securely attached to the door frame.
7. Reconnect the door handle and cables
- Locate the door handle and disconnect the cables from inside the door.
- Connect the cables to the new door latch mechanism.
- Check the door handle to ensure it's working smoothly and opening the door properly.
8. Reattach the door panel
- Carefully align the door panel with the door frame.
- Reinsert the screws and bolts you removed in step #2, making sure they are tightened securely.
9. Test the door.
- Open and close the door several times to make sure the new latch mechanism is properly installed and functioning smoothly.
