1. Park your truck on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels, But don't remove them yet.
3. Raise the rear of the truck off of the ground with a jack and place jack stands under the frame for safety.
4. Remove the lug nuts and wheels.
5. Locate the rear axle housing inspection cover on the rear end of the truck.
6. Drain the differential fluid by removing the drain plug located at the bottom of the differential housing and loosen the fill plug located at the top. (Note: Allow fluid to cool before draining to prevent burns.)
7. Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts and remove the caliper.
8. Unscrew the differential cover with a wrench and remove the cover carefully.
9. Pry out the old seal from the axle.
10. Clean the sealing surfaces of the axle and the housing with brake cleaner.
11. Apply a thin coat of silicone sealant around the outer edge of the new seal
12. Carefully tap the new seal into place with a hammer and a block of wood.
13. Reinstall the differential cover, gasket, and bolts.
14. Reinstall the brake caliper with new pads.
15. Refill the differential with the correct amount and type of fluid.
16. Reinstall the wheels and lug nuts.
17. Lower the truck off the jack stands and carefully test drive the vehicle to make sure the seal is working properly.
