1. Gather the necessary tools and parts.
* Replacement outer tie rod
* Inner tie rod tool
* Wrench set
* Pliers
* Penetrating oil
* Jack and jack stands
* Wheel chocks
2. Prepare your vehicle.
* Park your vehicle on a level surface.
* Set the parking brake.
* Chock the wheels.
* Jack up the front of your vehicle and support it on jack stands.
* Remove the front wheels.
3. Locate the outer tie rod.
The outer tie rod is located on the front of the suspension, connecting the steering knuckle to the inner tie rod.
4. Disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle.
* Use a wrench to loosen the nut that holds the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
* Once the nut is loose, use a pry bar to pry the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle.
5. Unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod.
* Use a wrench to loosen the locknut that holds the outer tie rod to the inner tie rod.
* Once the locknut is loose, use an inner tie rod tool to unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod.
6. Install the new outer tie rod.
* Screw the new outer tie rod onto the inner tie rod.
* Tighten the locknut until it is snug.
* Insert the cotter pin into the hole in the outer tie rod end to secure it in place.
7. Reconnect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
* Place the outer tie rod into the steering knuckle.
* Tighten the nut until it is snug.
8. Reinstall the front wheels.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Test drive your vehicle.
* Drive your vehicle in a safe area to test the steering.
* Make sure that the steering is responsive and that there is no play in the tie rod end.
