How do you replace the starter on a 1997 Buick Century?

Tools and materials needed:

* Replacement starter motor

* Socket set

* Torque wrench

* Screwdriver

* Pliers

* Flashlight

Procedure:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the air cleaner if necessary to gain access to the starter.

3. Locate the starter motor on the driver's side of the engine, attached to the transmission bell housing.

4. Remove the electrical connections from the starter. There will be two or three wires connected to the starter.

5. Remove the starter mounting bolts. There are usually two or three bolts that hold the starter in place.

6. Remove the old starter from the vehicle.

7. Position the new starter in place and install the mounting bolts. Hand-tighten the bolts until they are snug, then use a torque wrench to tighten them to the specified torque.

8. Reconnect the electrical connections to the starter.

9. Reinstall the air cleaner if necessary.

10. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

Note: The procedure may vary slightly depending on the specific year and model of your vehicle. If you are unsure of how to replace the starter on your vehicle, please consult a qualified mechanic.
