How do you change the hub assembly on a 1996 Chevy Blazer?

Tools and Materials Needed:

- Basic tools (wrenches, sockets, pliers, etc.)

- Hub/bearing assembly replacement kit (specific to your vehicle model and year)

- Jack

- Jack stands

- Safety glasses

- Gloves

- Flathead screwdriver

- Wire brush

Instructions:

1. Preparation

- Park the vehicle on level ground and apply the parking brake.

- Loosen the lug nuts (do not remove them completely) on the wheel where the hub assembly needs to be replaced.

2. Raise the Vehicle

- Place the jack under the frame of the vehicle, near the wheel where you are replacing the hub assembly.

- Raise the vehicle using the jack until the wheel is off the ground.

- Secure the vehicle with jack stands.

3. Remove the Wheel

- Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.

4. Remove the Caliper

- Remove the two bolts holding the brake caliper in place.

- Hang the caliper using a bungee cord or wire to prevent it from being damaged.

5. Remove the Brake Rotor

- Remove the two bolts that hold the brake rotor.

- Pull the rotor straight off.

6. Remove the Hub Assembly

- Remove the four bolts that hold the hub assembly in place (they may be located on the backside of the hub).

- Use a flathead screwdriver to pry the hub assembly off the axle.

7. Clean the Spindle

- Clean the spindle where the new hub will be seated using a wire brush to remove any dirt or rust.

8. Install the New Hub Assembly

- Place the new hub assembly onto the spindle and secure it using the four bolts.

- Do not fully tighten the bolts at this time.

9. Reinstall the Brake Rotor

- Slide the brake rotor back into place.

- Reinstall the two bolts to secure the brake rotor.

10. Reinstall the Caliper

- Hang the brake caliper back into place.

- Reattach the two bolts that secure the caliper.

11. Tighten the Bolts

- Fully tighten the bolts that secure the hub assembly to the spindle.

- Tighten the brake rotor bolts.

- Tighten the caliper bolts.

12. Reinstall the Wheel

- Place the wheel back onto the hub.

- Reinstall the lug nuts and hand-tighten them.

- Lower the vehicle using the jack and remove the jack stands.

- Fully tighten the lug nuts.

13. Test the brakes.

- Depress the brake pedal a few times to ensure proper functioning of the brakes.
