Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Disconnect the Battery:
- Start by disconnecting the negative terminal of the car battery. This will help prevent any electrical accidents during the process.
2. Remove the Steering Wheel Cover:
- Use a slotted screwdriver to pry open the steering wheel cover carefully.
3. Remove the Steering Wheel:
- Use a socket wrench to loosen the bolts holding the steering wheel in place.
- Once the bolts are loose, gently pull the steering wheel towards you to remove it. Be careful not to damage the clock spring mechanism behind it.
4. Remove the Airbag Module:
- Locate the two Torx screws securing the airbag module to the steering column.
- Use a Torx bit to loosen and remove these screws.
- Disconnect the airbag connector carefully to avoid setting off the airbags.
- Set aside the airbag module in a safe place.
5. Remove the Steering Column Covers:
- Use a slotted screwdriver to pry open and remove the steering column upper and lower covers.
6. Remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder:
- Insert a key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position.
- Use a small pry tool or flat-head screwdriver to depress the release button located near the ignition cylinder.
- While pressing the release button, turn the key to the "LOCK" position and pull the lock cylinder out of the housing.
7. Install the New Ignition Lock Cylinder:
- Align the new lock cylinder with the housing and insert it.

8. Reassemble the Steering Column:
- Reinstall the steering column upper and lower covers, securing them with screws.
9. Reinstall the Airbag Module:
- Reconnect the airbag connector and insert the Torx screws to secure the airbag module.
10. Reinstall the Steering Wheel:
- Place the steering wheel back on the steering column, making sure to align the clock spring properly.
- Tighten the bolts holding the steering wheel in place.
11. Reattach the Steering Wheel Cover:
- Snap the steering wheel cover back into place, ensuring it's secured properly.
12. Reconnect the Battery:
- Reconnect the negative terminal of the car battery.
13. Test the Ignition:
- Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position to check if the ignition lock is functioning correctly.
14. Test the Airbag Module:
- Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position and check if the airbag warning light illuminates and then turns off. This indicates that the airbag system is functioning properly.
