How do you bypass the antitheft system on 1997 Chevrolet Malibu?

Bypass the anti-theft system on a 1997 Chevrolet Malibu

1. Disable vehicle motion detection.

Locate the Vehicle Motion Sensor (VMS) near the vehicle’s master cylinder. Disconnect the wiring harness connector. If so equipped, remove the bolt(s) securing the harness clamp.

>This action will disable the vehicle motion detection system only. Additional procedures are required to defeat the engine immobilization system.

2. Disconnect the wiring harness connector at the key cylinder housing.

Use a thin, flat blade tool or small flat blade screwdriver to release the lock tab and separate the connector halves. On models with the Theft Deterrent System, release the Theft Deterrent System connector lock tab and separate connector halves.

>Disconnecting this connector will prevent communication with the Vehicle Anti-Theft System (VATS) module and immobilizes the engine.

3. Install the VATS bypass module.

Connect one end of the bypass module wiring harness to the Passlock I connector located behind the driver’s knee bolster and the other end to the wire harness connector.

>Follow the bypass module manufacturer's instructions to connect the wire harness connectors and route and secure the wires.

4. Start the vehicle.

Turn the ignition key to the "On" position and wait 3 to 5 seconds for the VATS bypass module to initialize. Then start the vehicle.
