How do you set timing marks on a gear and chain 98 Pontiac Sunfire?

1. Remove the valve cover.

2. Turn the crankshaft so the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket aligns with the timing pointer.

3. Verify the timing mark on the camshaft sprocket aligns with the timing mark on the camshaft cover.

4. There should be a mark on the cam gear and a spot on the upper timing cover. These two marks should line up.

5. Tighten the cam gear bolt to the proper specifications.

6. Install the valve cover.
