How do you replace the wiper motor on a 1991 Ford Crown Victoria?

Tools and Materials Needed:

- Phillips Head Screwdriver

- Flat Head Screwdriver

- Socket Wrench Set

- Wiper Motor Assembly

- New Wiper Motor Gasket

Instructions:

1. Disconnect Battery:

- Disconnect the battery to ensure the vehicle is completely de-energized while performing the repair.

2. Remove Wiper Arms:

- Use the flat head screwdriver to pry open the plastic covers on the base of the wiper arms.

- Remove the nuts holding down the wiper arms using a socket wrench.

- Lift off the wiper arms.

3. Unbolt Wiper Motor:

- Locate the wiper motor housing assembly beneath the windshield.

- Use the socket wrench to remove the bolts holding the wiper motor assembly to the vehicle.

4. Disconnect Electrical Connectors:

- Locate and disconnect the electrical connectors from the wiper motor.

5. Remove Wiper Transmission Linkage:

- Use a flat head screwdriver to pry off the pin holding the wiper transmission linkage to the motor.

- Remove the linkage from the motor by pulling it out.

6. Loosen Wiper Motor Mounting Nuts:

- Loosen the nuts holding the motor to the firewall.

7. Pull Out Motor:

- Gently pull the wiper motor out of the engine bay.

8. Install New Motor:

- Insert the new wiper motor in the reverse order that the old motor was removed.

- Secure it with the mounting nuts.

9. Reconnect Electrical Connectors:

- Re-connect the electrical connectors to the wiper motor.

10. Install Transmission Linkage:

- Attach the wiper transmission back onto the motor and secure it with the pin.

11. Reinstall Wiper Arms:

- Reattach the wiper arms back to the motor, hand tightened, but do not completely tighten yet.

12. Adjust Wiper Arm Position:

- Manually move the wiper arms until they rest in their ideal positions in the "Park" position.

13. Tighten Wiper Arms:

- Tighten the nuts holding down the wiper arms securely.

14. Reconnect Battery:

- Re-connect the battery.

15. Test Wiper Motor:

- Turn on the ignition and test the wiper motor by activating the windshield wipers.

16. Install Wiper Motor Gasket:

- Inspect that the wiper motor gasket remains intact, but if it’s damaged, remove the old one and install a new one.

Ensure that the wiper arms are positioned correctly as they rest on the windshield. Once the wiper motor is installed and tested successfully, you can close the hood and your vehicle is ready to go.
