How do you change the rear main seal on a Dodge Stratus.?

Tools and materials needed:

- New rear main seal

- Sealant

- Gasket scraper

- 10mm socket wrench

- 13mm socket wrench

- 15mm socket wrench

- 18mm socket wrench

- 22mm socket wrench

- Pry bar

- Oil drain pan

- Funne

Procedure

1.) Park the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.

2.) Raise the vehicle with a jack and support it on jack stands.

3.) Drain the oil from the engine by removing the oil drain plug located on the oil pan.

4.) Remove the transmission bell housing bolts using a 15mm socket wrench.

5.) Remove the two starter bolts holding the starter motor to bellhousing.

6.) Separate the bell housing from the engine block using a pry bar. Be careful not to damage the crankshaft or the seal.

7.) Pry out the old rear main seal from its groove using gasket scraper.

8.) Clean the groove where the old seal was installed, being careful not to damage it.

9.) Put a thin coat of sealant on the new seal.

10.)Install the new rear main seal into the groove, making sure that the lip is pointing towards the inside of the engine.

11.) Reinstall the transmission bell housing and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

12.) Reinstall the oil pan and fill it with new oil.

13.) Reinstall the starter motor and its bolts.

14.) Lower the vehicle and remove the jack stands.
