- New transmission fluid (check your owner's manual for the correct type and amount)
- A funnel
- A 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set
- A drain pan
- A rags
Instructions:
1. Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely.
2. Locate the transmission fluid drain plug. It is usually located on the bottom of the transmission pan.
3. Place the drain pan under the drain plug and loosen the plug using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set.
4. Allow all of the transmission fluid to drain out. This may take several minutes.
5. Once all of the fluid has drained out, replace the drain plug and tighten it securely.
6. Locate the transmission fluid fill plug. It is usually located on the top of the transmission pan.
7. Remove the fill plug using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set.
8. Insert the funnel into the fill hole and add new transmission fluid. Add the amount of fluid specified in your owner's manual.
9. Replace the fill plug and tighten it securely.
10. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new transmission fluid throughout the system.
11. Check the transmission fluid level and add more fluid if necessary. The fluid level should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the transmission fluid dipstick.
Tips:
- If you are unsure of how to perform this task, you can have it done by a qualified mechanic.
- Be sure to use the correct type of transmission fluid for your car. Using the wrong type of fluid can damage your transmission.
- Be careful not to overfill the transmission. Overfilling the transmission can cause it to overheat and damage the transmission.
