Warning: Before you start working on your vehicle's electrical system, make sure that the battery is disconnected; this will prevent any accidents from happening.
1. Locate the headlight and turn signal switch. In most cases, this will be located on the steering column beneath the steering wheel.
2. Remove the steering wheel if necessary; some vehicles require the removal of the steering wheel in order to access the headlight and turn signal switch.
3. Remove the turn signal lever by unscrewing the retaining screws and pulling the lever out from the column; there may be a plastic shroud covering the housing of the switch. If there is, pry it off gently.
4. Remove the headlight switch knob. In some cases, this can be done by pulling it straight off. If it is hard to remove, there may be a small screw holding it in place; look for the screw and remove it.
5. Remove the mounting screws for the headlight and turn signal switch. There will typically be two or three of these screws. Once they are removed, the switch can be pulled out from the column.
6. Disconnect the wiring harness from the switch by pressing down on the release tab and pulling the connector off.
7. Install the new headlight and turn signal switch in the reverse order of removal. Make sure to connect the wiring harness correctly before reinstalling the steering wheel.
8. Test the new switch to ensure that it works correctly. Turn the headlights on and off, and make sure that the turn signals flash when activated.
Note: If you are uncomfortable performing this repair, it is best to take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic.
