1. Make sure the engine has been off for at least 30 minutes.
2. Turn the ignition key to the ON position, but do not start the engine. This is called the "key on, engine off" position.
3. Press the gas pedal all the way to the floor and hold it there.
4. While still holding the gas pedal down, turn the key to the START position and start the engine.
5. Keep the gas pedal floored for 15 seconds, then release it.
6. The engine will idle for a few minutes. During this time, the computer will reset itself and clear any stored trouble codes.
7. After a few minutes, turn the key to the OFF position and leave it there for at least 30 minutes.
8. After 30 minutes, turn the key to the ON position and start the engine. The drive cycle is now complete and the computer should be reset.
Note: If the check engine light is still on after performing the drive cycle, it means there is a current problem with the vehicle that needs to be addressed. You should have it diagnosed by a qualified mechanic.
