1. Gather your tools. You will need: OBD-II scanner, jumper wire, and a 10mm wrench.
2. Start your CR-V and let it idle for a few minutes.
3. Connect the OBD-II scanner to the port under the dashboard, usually located on the driver's side.
4. Turn the key to the "ON" position without starting the engine.
5. Press the "Erase" or "Clear DTCs" button on the scanner.
6. If prompted, enter the security code for your CR-V. The default security code is "1234".
7. Wait for the scanner to erase the fault codes. This may take a few minutes.
8. Once the fault codes are erased, turn off the key and disconnect the scanner.
9. Start your CR-V and check if the check engine light is off.
Please note:
- If the check engine light comes back on, you may have a persistent issue that needs to be addressed.
- Clearing the check engine light will not fix the underlying issue that caused it to come on.
If the check engine light continues to come on after resetting it, you should schedule an appointment with a mechanic to diagnose and repair the problem.
