1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine. Applying parking brake. This will help to prevent the car from rolling while you are working.
2. Locate the starter motor, which is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with two electrical terminals and a solenoid attached to it. Starter usually located next to the oil filter.
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable with wrench to prevent electrical shock while you are working.
4. Support your vehicle with jack stands . You will need to raise your vehicle to be able to access the starter. Jack your vehicle up and lower it onto jack stands.
5. Remove the ground connector from the starter. Usually, ground strap connected on the back side of the starter. Unbolt the ground connector using wrench or socket.
6. Remove the electrical connections from the starter. There are two electrical terminals on the starter, one large and one small. Use wrench or socket to loosen the nuts holding the electrical connections in place.
7. Remove the starter mounting bolts. There are two or three bolts that hold the starter in place. Use wrench or socket to loosen starter bolts.
8. Remove the old starter from the vehicle. Once the bolts are removed, starter can be removed by pulling it straight out of its mounting bracket.
9. Install the new starter. Insert the new starter into its mounting bracket and replace the bolts that you removed earlier.
10. Reconnect the electrical connections to the starter. Reattach the positive and negative battery cables to their respective terminals on the starter.
11. Reconnect the ground connector. Screw the ground connector that you disconnected earlier back onto the starter.
12. Test the starter. Turn the key in the ignition to the "start" position. The starter should engage and crank the engine.
13. Reinstall any components you removed. reinstall any components that you removed such as air cleaner housing and heat shield.
Tips:
- Be careful not to drop the starter motor when you are removing or installing it.
- If you are having difficulty removing the starter, you may need to use a pry bar to help you.
- Be sure to reconnect all of the electrical connections properly.
