How do you set timing on 2002 Yamaha V-star 1100?

To set the timing on a 2002 Yamaha V-Star 1100, you will need the following tools:

- Service Manual

- 10mm socket wrench

- 5mm Allen key

- Torque wrench

- Strobe timing light

- Timing tape

- A friend to help you crank the engine

1. Remove the spark plug caps and spark plugs.

2. Remove the left front cover.

3. Remove the rotor cover (located behind the left front cover).

4. Remove the ignition pulse generator cover (located behind the front cylinder on the left side of the engine).

5. Clean all the timing marks, using a wire brush.

6. Turn the crankshaft so the timing mark "T1" on the rotor aligns with the mark on the crankcase.

7. Insert a 5mm Allen key into the hole on the ignition pulse generator to lock the rotor in place.

8. Connect a strobe timing light to the number one spark plug wire.

9. Attach a piece of timing tape to the front of the front cylinder head.

10. Crank the engine over with your friend while you hold the timing light pointed at the timing tape.

11. The timing mark "F" on the rotor should line up with the 0 degree mark on the timing tape.

12. If the marks are not aligned, loosen the two bolts that hold the ignition pulse generator in place and rotate the generator until the marks are aligned.

13. Tighten the bolts to secure the ignition pulse generator.

14. Repeat steps 9-12 for the rear cylinder.

15. Replace the ignition pulse generator cover, rotor cover, left front cover, spark plugs, and spark plug caps.

16. Start the engine and check for proper ignition timing.
