How do you replace the transmission on a Honda Accord?

Tools Needed

* Socket set

* Wrench set

* Screwdriver

* Transmission jack

* Oil drain pan

* New transmission

* Transmission fluid

* Gasket

Instructions:

1. Park the car on a level surface and apply the parking brake.

2. Disengage the shifter and turn off any lights or accessories.

3. Open the fluid reservoir drain valve to drain all of the oil from the old transmission.

4. Raise the car with the jack and remove the wheels. Set them out of the way.

5. Remove the skid plate, lower engine brace and any other components to gain access to the transmission.

6. Disconnect the shifter linkage and any other cables that are attached to the transmission.

7. Remove the exhaust and driveshaft.

8. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.

9. Remove the transmission bolts.

10. Once all of the transmission bolts have been removed, slowly lower the transmission from the car.

11. Inspect the transmission mount and replace it if necessary.

12. Install the new transmission.

13. Bolt the transmission to the engine block.

14. Install the exhaust system and driveshaft.

15. Reconnect the shifter linkage and any other connectors that were disconnected.

16. Lower the car with the jack.

17. Fill the transmission with new fluid.

18. Start the car and let it run for a few minutes.

19. Check the transmission oil level and add more if necessary.

20. Drive the car around for a few days and test the transmission to make sure it is functioning properly.

21. Have a mechanic do an alignment so the front and rear wheels point in the same direction at all times and keep the steering wheel centered.
