1. Park the vehicle on a level surface with the engine running.
2. Apply the parking brake.
3. Locate the transmission fluid dipstick. It is usually located near the back of the engine compartment, near the transmission.
4. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean with a rag.
5. Reinsert the dipstick into the transmission until it is fully seated.
6. Pull the dipstick out again and check the fluid level. The fluid level should be between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
7. If the fluid level is low, add automatic transmission fluid to the transmission until the level is correct.
8. Reinsert the dipstick and make sure it is fully seated.
It is important to check the transmission fluid level regularly, especially if the vehicle is driven in hot weather or under heavy loads. Low transmission fluid can cause the transmission to overheat and fail.
