Tools Needed:
- Flathead screwdriver or panel removal tool
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- Wire stripper/crimper (if necessary)
- Soldering iron (optional)
- New speakers (compatible with your vehicle's specifications)
Steps:
1. Remove the Door Panel:
- Open the door and use a flathead screwdriver or a panel removal tool to carefully pry off the plastic cover that surrounds the door handle and power window switch controls.
- You may need to remove a few screws to release the door panel.
- Once the screws are removed, gently pry the door panel upwards and outwards, starting from the bottom edge, until it disengages from the door frame.
2. Locate and Remove the Factory Speaker:
- With the door panel removed, you should now see the factory speaker mounted to the door frame.
- Disconnect the speaker wires by gently pressing the release tabs on the speaker connectors and pulling them out.
- Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws securing the speaker to the door frame.
3. Prepare the Replacement Speaker:
- Remove the old speaker from the mounting bracket. If your new speakers come with a separate mounting bracket, attach them according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- If your new speakers use different speaker connectors, you may need to use a wire stripper/crimper to connect the new speaker wires to the existing speaker wires.
- Make sure that the polarity is correct (positive to positive and negative to negative).
4. Mount the New Speaker:
- Place the new speaker into the door frame and secure it using the screws you removed earlier. Ensure the speaker sits snugly against the door frame.
5. Test the Speaker:
- Reinstall the door panel by aligning it with the door frame and pushing it back into place. Make sure all the clips engage securely.
- Connect the speaker wires to the speaker connectors by aligning the tabs and pushing them in.
- Turn on the car audio system and test the new speakers to ensure they are working properly.
6. Finish Installing the Door Panel:
- Replace the plastic covers and screws that you removed earlier to reattach the door panel fully.
Repeat the steps for the second front door speaker. Once you've done both sides, your 2000 Nissan Altima should have new front door speakers installed and ready to use.
