1996 Nissan Pathfinder back door will not open Door is unlocked and I have tried to from inside outside. also used a putty knife make sure child lock was in the position.?

Here are some additional steps you can try to open the back door of your 1996 Nissan Pathfinder:

1. Check the door lock actuator: The door lock actuator is responsible for locking and unlocking the door. It is located inside the door panel. If the actuator is faulty, it may not be able to unlock the door. Try to manually unlock the door by reaching inside the door panel and pulling on the lock mechanism. If the door unlocks manually, then the actuator may need to be replaced.

2. Check the door latch: The door latch is responsible for holding the door closed. If the latch is faulty, it may not be able to release the door. Try to manually release the latch by reaching inside the door panel and pushing on the latch mechanism. If the door unlocks manually, then the latch may need to be replaced.

3. Check the child lock: The child lock is located on the inside of the door. If the child lock is engaged, it will prevent the door from being opened from the outside. Make sure that the child lock is disengaged.

4. Check the door hinges: The door hinges may be damaged or rusted. This could cause the door to bind and prevent it from opening. Try to wiggle the door back and forth to see if it is binding. If the door is binding, then the hinges may need to be repaired or replaced.

5. Lubricate the door mechanisms: The door mechanisms may be dry and need lubrication. Try to lubricate the door lock actuator, door latch, and door hinges. Use a penetrating oil or silicone spray.

If none of these steps work, then you may need to take your car to a mechanic for further diagnosis and repair.
