- 1/2-inch drive ratchet
- 17mm socket
- 19mm socket
- Breaker bar
- Pry bar
- Penetrating oil
Here are the steps involved in removing the crank pulley:
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. This will prevent the engine from starting while you are working on it.
2. Remove the serpentine belt. The serpentine belt is the long, thin belt that runs around several of the pulleys on the front of the engine. To remove it, you will need to loosen the tensioner pulley using a 17mm socket. Once the tensioner is loosened, you can slip the belt off of the pulleys.
3. Remove the 19mm bolt that holds the crank pulley in place. This bolt is located in the center of the pulley. You can loosen it with a 1/2-inch drive ratchet and a 19mm socket.
4. Use a pry bar to pry the crank pulley off of the crankshaft. Be careful not to damage the crankshaft.
5. Inspect the crank pulley and the crankshaft for any damage. If there is any damage, you will need to replace the pulley or the crankshaft.
6. Reinstall the crank pulley. To do this, simply reverse the steps that you followed to remove it.
7. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
That's it! You have now successfully removed and reinstalled the crank pulley on your Toyota Avalon.
