Tools Needed:
- Socket wrench
- Extension bar
- Deep well sockets (12mm, 14mm, 17mm)
- Jack and jack stands
- Safety goggles
Procedure:
1. Preparations:
- Park the car on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Make sure the car is raised securely on jack stands.
2. Locate the starter:
- The starter is located on the driver's side of the engine, near the bottom.
3. Remove the air intake:
- Remove the air intake hose connected to the throttle body using a screwdriver or pliers.
4. Remove the battery cable:
- Disconnect the battery cable from the starter solenoid using a wrench.
5. Remove the wires from the solenoid:
- Use a wrench to loosen the nuts and remove the wires attached to the solenoid.
6. Disconnect the starter mounting bolts:
- Remove the upper and lower starter mounting bolts using a deep well socket.
7. Remove the starter:
- Once the bolts are removed, carefully slide the starter out from under the car, maneuvering past any obstructions.
8. Install the new starter:
- Insert the new starter into its position, aligning the mounting bolt holes.
- Secure the starter with the mounting bolts, tightening them firmly.
9. Reconnect the wires:
- Reattach the wires to the starter solenoid, ensuring proper connection.
10. Reconnect the battery cable:
- Reattach the battery cable to the starter solenoid, tightening the nut.
11. Reconnect the air intake:
- Reinstall the air intake hose to its original position.
12. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Re-connect the negative battery terminal to the battery.
13. Test the starter:
- Try starting the car to ensure the starter is functioning correctly.
14. Lower the car:
- Carefully lower the car from the jack stands.
