Yes, to remove the back plate you will need two pry bars about 1 to 1 1/2 ft long. Then the parking brake shoe return spring needs a special tool to compress the springs or you can get them with a kit of special tools for around $85. Some auto part stores will rent/borrow the tools required as well.
