Another way to reset the check engine light is to disconnect the negative battery terminal for a few minutes. This will clear the vehicle's computer memory and reset the check engine light. However, this method will also erase any stored trouble codes, so you will not be able to troubleshoot the problem if the check engine light comes back on.
If you are not comfortable using an OBDII scanner or disconnecting the negative battery terminal, you can also take your vehicle to an auto repair shop to have the check engine light reset.
