1. Gather Tools and Materials:
- Replacement ignition coil (check your vehicle's specific requirements)
- Socket wrench set
- Spark plug wrench or deep socket
- Replacement spark plugs (optional, if necessary)
- Pliers
- Electrical connector release tool (if needed)
2. Locate the Ignition Coil:
- Open the hood of your Honda CR-V.
- Locate the cylinder head cover. The ignition coils are usually located on top of the cylinder head, near the spark plugs.
3. Disconnect the Electrical Connector:
- Follow the coil wire to the electrical connector.
- Use the electrical connector release tool to unclip and disconnect the connector from the coil.
4. Remove the Coil Mounting Bolt:

9. Replace the Spark Plug (optional):
- If you're replacing the spark plug at the same time, you'll need to use a spark plug wrench or a deep socket to loosen and remove the old spark plug.
- Install the new spark plug carefully and hand-tighten it.
- Next, use the spark plug wrench to turn it about 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn to ensure it's snug but not over-tightened.
10. Double-Check Connections:
- Make sure all electrical connectors are securely plugged in.
11. Start the Engine:
- Give your CR-V a try and check for any misfires or rough idling.
12. Test Drive and Monitor:
- Once everything seems okay, take your CR-V for a short test drive to ensure everything's working properly.
