2. Prepare your car.
- Park your car on a level surface.
- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
- Disconnect the battery.
- Remove the serpentine belt.
- Remove the timing belt cover.
3. Set the engine to Top Dead Center (TDC).
- Locate the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the camshaft gears.
- Use the breaker bar to turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise until the timing marks are aligned.
- Check to make sure that the pistons are at the top of their strokes by inserting the flat-head screwdriver into the spark plug holes.
- If the screwdriver does not move up or down, then the engine is at TDC.
4. Remove the old timing belt.
- Use the ratchet and socket set to remove the tensioner pulley.
- Use the needle-nose pliers to remove the old timing belt from the gears.
5. Install the new timing belt.
- Start by looping the new timing belt around the crankshaft pulley.
- Then, loop it around the camshaft gears.
- Make sure that the timing marks are still aligned.
- Install the tensioner pulley and tighten it until the pointer is aligned with the mark on the tensioner.
- Double check that all of the timing marks are still aligned.
6. Reinstall the timing belt cover and serpentine belt.
7. Reattach the battery.
8. Start the engine and check for leaks.
9. Test drive the car to make sure that the timing belt is working properly.
10. Congratulations, you have now installed a new timing belt on your 1994 Accord!
