>2. Press and hold the shift lock release button while moving the gearshift lever into neutral. The vehicle's gearshift should now be released and you can shift into any gear.
>_Note: _ This procedure will not work if the Highlander's battery is dead or the vehicle is not in park. If the battery is dead, you may need to jump-start the vehicle before you can release the gearshift. If the vehicle is not in park, you will need to use the emergency brake to hold the vehicle in place before you can release the gearshift.
