- Phillips-head screwdriver
- Flat-head screwdriver
- 10mm socket wrench
- 14mm socket wrench
- New compass (OEM part number 83281-04040)
Instructions:
1. Park your Tacoma on a level surface and turn off the engine. Engage the parking brake.
2. Open the hood and locate the compass module. It is located on the top of the dashboard, near the center.
3. Use the Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the two screws that secure the compass module in place.
4. Gently pry the compass module out of its housing using the flat-head screwdriver. Be careful not to damage the wires.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the compass module by pressing the release tab and pulling the connector straight up.
6. Remove the compass from your truck.
7. Compare the old compass to the new one to ensure they are the same size and shape.
8. Install the new compass by aligning it with the mounting holes and inserting the two screws.
9. Reconnect the electrical connector to the back of the compass module by pressing the release tab and inserting it until it clicks into place.
10. Snap the compass module back into its housing until it clicks into place.
11. Replace the two screws that secure the compass module in place.
12. Close the hood.
Your compass should be replaced and working properly. If you are still having issues, you may need to take your truck to a mechanic for further diagnosis and repair.
