How do you change the transmission oil in a 1998 Honda Civic DX?

1. Purchase the necessary materials:

- 4 quarts of Honda MTF (either genuine Honda or a compatible aftermarket fluid)

- A 17mm wrench

- A funnel

- A drain pan

- Rags

- A new transmission drain plug gasket (optional, but recommended)

2. Prepare the car.

- Park the car on a level surface.

- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.

- Engage the parking brake.

- If possible, raise the front of the car using ramps or a jack and jack stands to make it easier to access the transmission drain plug.

3. Locate the transmission drain plug.

- The transmission drain plug is located on the bottom of the transmission pan. It is a 17mm bolt.

4. Drain the old transmission oil.

- Place the drain pan under the transmission drain plug.

- Use the 17mm wrench to loosen the transmission drain plug.

- Allow the old transmission oil to drain completely.

5. Replace the transmission drain plug.

- Replace the transmission drain plug.

- Tighten the transmission drain plug until it is snug. Do not over-tighten the transmission drain plug.

6. Add new transmission oil.

- Remove the filler plug from the top of the transmission. It is located next to the dipstick tube.

- Use the funnel to add new transmission oil to the transmission.

- Add 3.2 quarts of transmission fluid.

- Check the transmission fluid level using the dipstick. The transmission fluid level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.

7. Test drive the car.

- Start the car and allow it to run for a few minutes.

- Shift through all of the gears.

- Listen for any unusual noises or vibrations.

- Check for any leaks.
