- Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Open the hood of your car.
- Disconnect the negative terminal of your car battery.
Step 2: Remove the old distributor cap and rotor.
- Locate the distributor cap. It is a round, plastic cover located at the top of the engine.
- Remove the screws that hold the distributor cap in place.
- Carefully lift the distributor cap off of the distributor.
- Remove the rotor from the distributor shaft.
Step 3: Install the new distributor cap and rotor.
- Place the new rotor onto the distributor shaft.
- Ensure the rotor is seated correctly; it should fit snugly onto the shaft.
- Place the new distributor cap onto the distributor.
- Secure the distributor cap in place with the screws removed earlier.
Step 4: Reconnect the battery terminal.
- Reconnect the negative terminal of your car battery.
Step 5: Start your car.
- Start your car and ensure it is running smoothly.
- If the car does not start, ensure the distributor is properly installed and all the connections are secure.
