How do you change front brake pads on a 1996 Acura 3.2 TL?

Tools and Materials Needed

- Lug wrench

- Jack

- Axle stand

- Brake caliper tool

- Flat-headed screwdriver

- New brake pads

- Brake cleaner

- Safety glasses

Instructions

1. Loosen the lug nuts. Use the lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the tire that is on the same side as the brake pads you will be replacing. Make sure you only loosen the lug nuts slightly, not all the way off.

2. Jack up the vehicle. Use the jack and axle stands to raise the vehicle so that you have enough room to work on the brakes. Make sure it's securely on the axle stands before proceeding.

3. Remove the wheel. Use the lug wrench to remove the lug nuts that you previously loosened. Then, remove the wheel by pulling it straight off of the hub.

4. Locate the brake caliper. It is located on the inside of the wheel well, near the rotor.

5. Remove the brake caliper. Use the brake caliper tool to compress the brake caliper piston. This will allow you to remove the brake pads.

6. Remove the old brake pads. Use a flat-headed screwdriver to pry the brake pads out of the caliper.

7. Clean the caliper. Spray the caliper with brake cleaner and wipe it clean with a rag.

8. Install the new brake pads. Place the new brake pads into the caliper. Make sure that they are seated properly.

9. Install the brake caliper. Use the brake caliper tool to compress the brake caliper piston again. This will allow you to install the caliper.

10. Replace the wheel. Put the wheel back on the hub and thread on the lug nuts by hand.

11. Lower the vehicle. Use the jack to lower the vehicle. Make sure the lug nuts are properly secured before driving.

Test the brakes. Before you drive, pump the brake pedal a few times to make sure that the brakes are working properly. Brake pads might need to be broken in before they properly apply pressure to the pads. Take it easy on the first drive to break in the pads.
