1. Park the vehicle and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool completely before beginning work.
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will prevent any electrical accidents from occurring while you are working on the expansion valve.
3. Locate the expansion valve. The expansion valve is located on the evaporator core, which is usually mounted inside the dashboard of the vehicle.
4. Remove the cap from the expansion valve. Be careful not to lose the spring and gasket that are located under the cap.
5. Inspect the expansion valve. Look for any signs of damage or wear. If the expansion valve is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
6. If the expansion valve is not damaged, clean it with a solvent. Be sure to dry the expansion valve thoroughly before reinstalling it.
7. If the expansion valve is damaged, it will need to be replaced. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Remove the two bolts that hold the expansion valve in place.
b. Carefully remove the expansion valve from the evaporator core.
c. Install the new expansion valve in the reverse order of removal.
8. Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Start the engine and test the air conditioning system to make sure that it is working properly.
