Materials Needed:
1. New Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S)
2. Wrench set
3. Oxygen Sensor Socket (optional, but simplifies removal)
4. Penetrating Oil (optional, if sensor is stuck)

Procedure:
1. Safety First: Put on your safety goggles and nitrile gloves before starting the repair.
2. Cool the Engine: Ensure that the engine is off and cool enough for you to safely work around it.
3. Locate the Faulty HO2S: The HO2S is located in the exhaust system, typically mounted on or near the catalytic converter. In the case of the 2002 Montero Limited, it is usually positioned on the driver's side, in the exhaust pipe close to the engine.
4. Disconnect the Oxygen Sensor: Follow these steps to disconnect the oxygen sensor:
- Locate the electrical connector attached to the oxygen sensor.
- Press the release tab or squeeze the locking mechanism on the connector.
- Pull the connector straight off the oxygen sensor.
5. Remove the Sensor: Once the sensor is disconnected, use a wrench to loosen and remove the oxygen sensor from the exhaust pipe. If it's stuck, apply penetrating oil and let it sit for a few minutes before trying again.
6. Install the New Sensor: Screw in the new oxygen sensor by hand as much as possible. Then, use the wrench to tighten it securely, ensuring not to over-tighten.
7. Reconnect the Connector: Plug the electrical connector back into the new oxygen sensor. Make sure it's firmly connected.
8. Test the Repair: Start the vehicle and let it run for a few minutes. The malfunction code PO155 should be cleared if the replacement was successful. You may need to use an OBD-II scanner to check and clear the code.
Additional Information:
- Replacing the oxygen sensor requires access to the underside of the vehicle. If you don't have access to a car lift or ramps, you may need to crawl under the vehicle. Take appropriate safety measures to ensure your stability while working underneath.
- The oxygen sensor usually has three wires: a signal wire, a ground wire, and a heater wire. Make sure to reconnect the connector correctly to avoid any electrical issues.
