How do you change oil pan gasket for 99 Honda civic DX?

Tools and Materials:

- Oil drain pan

- New oil pan gasket

- Oil filter wrench

- RTV silicone sealant

- Wrench set

- Jack and jack stands

- Safety glasses

- Gloves

Instructions:

1. Prepare your car. Park your car on a level surface and apply the parking brake. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down. Engage the emergency brake. Raise and support the front end of your vehicle securely using jack stands. Remove the oil drain plug and allow the old oil to drain into an oil drain pan.

2. Remove the oil pan. Locate the oil pan bolts and loosen them with a wrench. Be careful not to drop any of the bolts into the oil pan.

3. Clean the oil pan gasket surface. Remove any old gasket material from the oil pan and engine block. Use a razor blade or putty knife to scrape away any stubborn gasket material. Make sure the surfaces are clean and dry.

4. Install the new oil pan gasket. Apply a thin bead of RTV silicone sealant to the oil pan gasket. Place the new gasket on the oil pan, making sure that the holes align with the bolt holes.

5. Install the oil pan. Carefully lower the oil pan into place. Be sure to align the holes in the gasket with the bolt holes in the engine block.

6. Secure the oil pan bolts. Insert the oil pan bolts and hand-tighten them. Then, tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern to evenly distribute the pressure.

7. Replace the oil filter. Locate the oil filter and loosen it with an oil filter wrench. Remove the old oil filter and discard it. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. Screw the new oil filter into place, being sure not to overtighten it.

8. Add new oil to the engine. Remove the oil fill cap and add new oil to the engine. Refer to your car's owner's manual for the recommended amount of oil

9. Check for leaks. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check underneath the car for any leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the oil pan bolts or oil filter until the leaks stop.

10. Lower the car. Carefully lower the car from the jack stands. Dispose of the old oil properly.
