- Lug wrench
- Jack and jack stands
- Flathead screwdriver
- C-clamp
- Brake caliper grease
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Vehicle:
- Park the car on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
- Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels but don't remove them completely.
Step 2: Raise the Vehicle:
- Use the jack to raise the rear of the vehicle until the wheels are off the ground.
- Secure the vehicle with jack stands.
Step 3: Remove the Wheels:
- Completely remove the lug nuts and take off the wheels.
Step 4: Remove the Caliper:
- Locate the brake caliper and remove the two bolts holding it in place.
- Slide the caliper off the rotor without disconnecting the brake line.
Step 5: Compress the Caliper Piston:
- Use a C-clamp to compress the caliper piston so that it fits over the new brake pads.
Step 6: Replace the Brake Pads:
- Remove the old brake pads from the caliper.
- Ensure the new brake pads fit properly in the caliper.
- Apply brake caliper grease to the back of the new brake pads.
- Slide the caliper over the new brake pads.
Step 7: Reinstall the Caliper:
- Reinstall the caliper using the two bolts you removed earlier.
- Tighten the bolts securely.
Step 8: Repeat on the Other Side:
- Repeat the process above for the other rear wheel.
Step 9: Test the Brakes:
- Lower the vehicle and remove the jack stands.
- Start the engine and press the brake pedal several times to ensure they are working properly.
Step 10: Road Test:
- Take the vehicle for a short road test to check that the brakes are functioning as intended.
