Tools Needed:
- New power steering hose
- Socket wrench set
- Pliers
- Drain pan
- Funnel
- Power steering fluid
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Car: Park the car on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down if the engine was recently running.
2. Locate the Power Steering Reservoir: Open the hood and find the power steering reservoir. It's usually a plastic container with a cap labeled "Power Steering Fluid."
3. Remove the Reservoir Cap: Remove the cap of the power steering reservoir.
4. Drain the Power Steering Fluid: Place a drain pan under the vehicle and disconnect the return hose from the reservoir. This will allow the power steering fluid to drain out.
5. Remove the Old Power Steering Hose: Locate the power steering hose that needs to be replaced. Follow it from the reservoir to the power steering pump. Use a wrench to loosen the hose clamps at both ends of the hose. Disconnect the hose from the pump and reservoir.
6. Install the New Power Steering Hose: Take the new power steering hose and connect it to the power steering reservoir and the pump. Make sure the hose is securely attached and tighten the hose clamps.
7. Reattach the Return Hose: Reconnect the return hose you disconnected earlier.
8. Refill the Power Steering Fluid: Using a funnel, pour power steering fluid into the reservoir until the fluid level reaches the "Full" mark.
9. Check for Leaks: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check the hose connections and the reservoir for any leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the hose clamps or replace the hose as necessary.
10. Test the Power Steering: Turn the steering wheel left and right to make sure the power steering is working properly. If the steering feels heavy or makes any unusual noises, there may be a problem with the power steering system.
11. Test Drive the Car: Take the car for a test drive and make sure the power steering is working correctly at different speeds and turning angles.
