Inspect the fuel gauge sender:
1. Locate the fuel gauge sender unit, which is usually mounted on top of the fuel tank.
2. Check the electrical connector for any signs of corrosion or damage. Clean the connector if necessary.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel gauge sender unit.
4. Use a multimeter to test the sender unit for resistance. The resistance should change smoothly as you move the float arm up and down.
If the fuel gauge sender unit is defective, it will need to be replaced. Here are the steps to replace the fuel gauge sender unit:
1. Remove the fuel tank skid plate.
2. Loosen the fuel lines going to the sender unit.
3. Remove the screws or bolts holding the fuel gauge sender unit in place.
4. Carefully remove the old sender unit from the fuel tank.
5. Install the new fuel gauge sender unit into the fuel tank.
6. Connect the electrical connector to the fuel gauge sender unit.
7. Tighten the screws or bolts that hold the sender unit in place.
8. Tighten the fuel lines connected to the sender unit.
8. Reinstall the fuel tank skid plate.
Test the fuel gauge to make sure it is working properly.
