Step 2 - Release Tensioner:
1. Wear your safety goggles.
2. Open the hood of your BMW and locate the serpentine belt. It is a rubber belt that runs across the front of the engine.
3. Find the serpentine belt tensioner. It is a pulley with a spring-loaded arm.
4. Insert the flat-blade screwdriver into the hole on the tensioner arm.
5. Pry the tensioner arm away from the belt to release tension. Keep the tensioner arm in this position using the screwdriver lodged inside.
Step 3 - Remove Belt:
1. Use the socket set to loosen and remove the bolts holding the serpentine belt in place.
2. Remove the serpentine belt from the engine.
Step 4 - Reinstall Belt:
1. Place the new serpentine belt around the pulleys on the engine.
2. While maintaining constant tension, loosen the tensioner arm by removing the screwdriver.
3. Hand tighten the tensioner bolts. Double check that the belt is properly seated on all the pulleys.
4. Tighten the tensioner bolts using the socket set.
5. Recheck belt alignment and tension.
Step 5 - Start the Engine:
1. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
2. Check that the serpentine belt is running smoothly and is properly aligned.
Your serpentine belt is now replaced.
