- Flathead screwdriver
- Socket wrench
- 10mm socket
- Replacement knock sensor
- RTV silicone sealant
Instructions:
1. Locate the knock sensor. The knock sensor is located on the engine block, near the oil filter. It is a small, cylindrical sensor that is usually bolted to the block with a single bolt.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector. The electrical connector for the knock sensor is located at the top of the sensor. Disconnect the connector by pressing down on the release tab and pulling it straight up.
3. Remove the bolt. Use a 10mm socket to remove the bolt that holds the knock sensor to the engine block.
4. Remove the old knock sensor. Once the bolt is removed, you can remove the old knock sensor by gently prying it out of the engine block with a flathead screwdriver. Be careful not to drop the old knock sensor into the engine.
5. Apply RTV silicone sealant. Apply a thin bead of RTV silicone sealant to the base of the new knock sensor. This will help to seal the sensor and prevent leaks.
6. Install the new knock sensor. Place the new knock sensor into the engine block and install the bolt. Tighten the bolt until the knock sensor is snug.
7. Reconnect the electrical connector. Reconnect the electrical connector to the knock sensor.
8. Start the engine. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for leaks around the knock sensor. If there are no leaks, the installation is complete.
