1. Gather the necessary tools and materials.
- New brake light switch
- Socket wrench set
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Flashlight
2. Park your vehicle in a safe location and turn off the engine.
- Apply parking brakes to prevent the car from rolling.
3. Locate the brake light switch.
- The brake light switch is usually located on the pedal assembly, near the top of the brake pedal.
- It is a small, black plastic switch with a plunger that is activated when the brake pedal is depressed.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the brake light switch.
- Use a flathead screwdriver to pry open the connector and release the wire.
5. Remove the two bolts that hold the brake light switch in place.
- Use a socket wrench to loosen the bolts and remove them.
6. Pull the brake light switch out of the pedal assembly.
- Once the bolts are removed, you can pull the brake light switch out of the pedal assembly.
7. Install the new brake light switch.
- Insert the new brake light switch into the pedal assembly and align the holes.
- Start the bolts and tighten them until they are snug.
8. Reconnect the electrical connector to the brake light switch.
- Press the connector onto the switch until it snaps into place.
9. Test the brake light switch.
- Depress the brake pedal to make sure the brake lights come on.
- If the brake lights do not come on, check the connections to make sure they are secure.
10. Reinstall the floor mat and start your vehicle.
- Make sure the floor mat is properly secured before driving your vehicle.
