How do you disconnect the car alarm on a late-1990s VW?

To disconnect the car alarm on a late-1990s VW:

1. Locate the Vehicle Control Module (VCM)

The VCM is usually located under the driver's seat. Remove the seat to access the car alarm.

It's a black plastic box with the words "Vehicle Control Module" printed on it.

2. Disconnect the Battery

Before touching any electrical components, disconnect the battery. This can be done by loosening the negative (-) terminal of the battery.

3. Remove the Cover

Remove the cover of the VCM by unscrewing the two Phillips head screws that hold it in place.

4. Locate the Alarm Disarm Wire

The alarm disarm wire is usually labeled as "ARM/DISARM" or something similar. It should be a thin, usually yellow, wire.

5. Ground the Alarm Disarm Wire

Connect the alarm disarm wire to a ground source (e.g. a metal part of the car's body) using a jumper wire.

6. Reconnect the Battery

Reconnect the battery by tightening the negative (-) terminal.

7. Test the Alarm

Try arming and disarming the alarm to make sure the alarm has been disconnected.
