How to replace brake pads on 1995 Monte Carlo?

Replacing brake pads on a 1995 Monte Carlo.

Tools Needed:

- Lug wrench

- Car jack

- Jack stands

- Socket set

- Flathead screwdriver

- Brake grease

Instructions:

1. Park the car in a safe location and apply the parking brake.

2. Loosen the lug nuts on the affected wheel. Don’t remove them yet.

3. Raise the car with a jack and support the vehicle with jack stands.

4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.

5. Locate the brake caliper on the back of the wheel hub.

6. Use a flathead screwdriver to depress the caliper piston so the old pads can be removed

7. Remove the top and bottom brake pad retaining bolts and take out the old brake pads.

8. Apply brake grease to the backing plates of the new brake pads.

9. Insert the new brake pads into the caliper and secure with the retaining bolts.

10. Slide the caliper back over the brake pads.

11. Reattach the wheel and tighten the lug nuts.

12. Lower the car and remove the jack stands.

13. Repeat steps 1-12 for the opposite wheel.

IMPORTANT _After replacing brake pads, the new pads need time to “seat” or get used to the surface of the rotors. Do not panic if you hear some brake noise or feel a slight vibration in the brake pedal for the first few stops. This is normal—the pads and rotors will adjust during the first few brake applications._
