Tools and Materials Needed:
- New front brake pads (specific to your Infiniti G35 model)
- C-clamp or brake caliper tool
- Flat-head screwdriver
- 3/8-inch socket wrench
- 7/16-inch socket wrench
- Large adjustable wrench
- Wire brush
- Brake cleaner
Step 1: Prepare Your Car
- Park your car on a level surface.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels, but do not remove them completely.
Step 2: Remove the Wheel
- Use the 3/8-inch socket wrench to remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheel.
Step 3: Remove the Brake Caliper
- Locate the brake caliper on the back of the wheel hub.
- Use the 7/16-inch socket wrench to remove the two bolts that hold the caliper in place.
- Slide the caliper off the rotor and set it aside, taking care not to strain or damage the brake line.
Step 4: Remove the Old Brake Pads
- Inspect the brake rotor for wear and damage. If necessary, resurface or replace the rotor.
- Use a large adjustable wrench to push back the caliper piston. This will make room for the new brake pads.
- Remove the old brake pads by sliding them out from between the caliper piston and the rotor.
Step 5: Clean the Caliper and Rotor
- Use a wire brush and brake cleaner to thoroughly clean the caliper and rotor.
- Make sure to remove any dirt, debris, or old brake material.
Step 6: Install the New Brake Pads
- Slide the new brake pads into place between the caliper piston and the rotor.
- Ensure that the pads are properly seated and aligned.
Step 7: Reattach the Caliper
- Slide the brake caliper back over the rotor and reinstall the two bolts that hold it in place.
- Tighten the bolts securely.
Step 8: Reattach the Wheel
- Place the wheel back on the hub and reinstall the lug nuts.
- Tighten the lug nuts until they're snug, but do not fully tighten them yet.
Step 9: Test the Brakes
- Release the parking brake and start your car.
- Gently apply the brakes to check that they engage smoothly and effectively.
- Gradually increase the pressure on the brake pedal to ensure they're working properly.
Step 10: Finalize Tightening the Lug Nuts
- Once you've tested the brakes, use the 3/8-inch socket wrench to fully tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern.
Step 11: Test Drive and Check for Leaks
- Take your car for a short test drive and pay attention to how the brakes feel.
- Check for any unusual sounds, vibrations, or resistance when braking.
- Inspect the wheel area for any signs of leaks or fluid drips.
Remember that replacing brake pads is a safety-critical task, so ensure you follow the instructions carefully or seek professional help if needed.
